I have an Asus z97 maximus 7 hero motherboard and i'm purchasing a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 500GB SSD. I read on forums that since my mobo is older, it has PCIE 2 slot and to get max performance from the SSD, i will need an adapter.
My brother has an x99 asus board and I checked the box today and found an Asus Hyper M.2 X4 Mini Card inside. So if i insert the ssd inside the card and then put it in my PC, will i be able to get full speed from the SSD?
This is the link for the adapter

It might as storage, but getting boot is a specific feature that only a few late release models had for z97. There is no mention of NVME on the mobos website. I wouldn't bank on it if you can't find any information on it. You can put it in your extra 3.0 slot. 8x for your GPU won't noticeably reduce speeds. 4x pcie 2.0 won't be worth the hassel. Might as well get a sata III drive at that point.
