So recently i pulled out few machines from my school that the ICT Department kindly gave me. One of the 5 is a Dell Optiplex 755 DT Core 2 Duo 2.5GB Ram No GPU Just running Windows 7 Pro

I'm wondering any good uses for it as it's on it's last legs? I've got it connected to my TV At the moment but video playback is just not smooth. What can i do? I'm thinking of putting Ubuntu onto it as it should run well.

Thank you

It should support up to a Q9650 CPU, 8GB DDR2-800, There is a riser card to put full height GPUs in it.

Other than that it's low profile. GT 1030.
In the owners manual on page 79 they list a 25W limit on the PCIe 16x slot. But strangely enough they don't repeat that about the slot on the riser card.

Some people report running higher powered cards in the slot. But it's definitely at your own risk.

A 2C/2T CPU is probably OK for Internet browsing, & should be fine for some light gaming on older games and/or watching media. if you can, though, see if you can find a cheap, compatible Core 2 Quad (see the PDF).

Is it 32-bit or 64-bit W7 Pro? If it's just 32-bit, see if you can go up to 4GB of RAM (max you can take), but if it's 64-bit go for the full 8GB. That'll also help performance (especially if you stick with the integrated graphics).

If you get a discrete GPU, I wouldn't go too high on it. A GT 730 would be fine, a 750TI would be ideal. I wouldn't go much above a 1030 or 1050, though.

It's 32 Bit Windows 7 Pro Core 2 duo E4600 2.ghz LGA775 CPU Socket.
Good all rounder PC At the moment it's doing no more than play Spotify out to my Speakers using connect and playing a bit of 720p Video off the network. I might replace it with a much smaller, compact FX160 Which can do the same job
