Ram supported by i3 8100

I watched some videos where they use 3200mhz RAM with the i3 8100 where as in the website it says that it supports 2400mhz. Why? Which is the max supported frequency? Is it the one supported by the motherboard?

The 8100 officially supports 2400mhz, but the motherboard can increase it. It is an added feature, more expensive motherboards can support higher frequency RAM.

But the fact is, Intel does not see a big jump in performance from increased RAM speed. Past 3000 you wont see much if any performance gains. 2666 is a sweet spot. So I would not worry too much about it and get the cheaper RAM.

RAM can always be kinda finicky, but Intel has much better compatibility than AMD. So it should not be an issue. If you want to ensure your RAM is supported, every motherboard has a QVL for memory. Go to the site for the board and click on support and look up the memory support list. It will list all of the serial numbers of memory that have been tested to work on that mobo.

It does not mean that if you pick RAM that is not on that list that it wont work, it just means that any RAM on that list is guaranteed to work. If it were me, I would just get a DDR4 kit from a big brand like Gskill or Crucial and you will be fine.
