I’m planning on buying a prebuilt pc with a gtx 1070 and i5 8400. It’s prebuilt so please don’t suggest other cpus because i can’t change it lol.
But.. can this processor combined with the gtx 1070 deliver 100+ frames on most games? I don’t mind tweaking settings a bit. I know the 8400 is a beast in gaming but is it even good enough for 1080p 144hz?

If i need to provide some more info on this :

Gpu : gtx 1070
Cpu : i5 8400
Mobo : MSI Z370-A Pro Z370 ATX
Ram : DDR4 16gb 2400mhz
Storage : 1tb hdd 250gb ssd
Psu : coolermaster 700watt
Cpu cooler : Cooler master Hyper 412

if anything else in this pc isn’t compatible for 1080p 144hz too, please let me know :)

Good setup overall. The PSU is mediocre but i dont think you can change it.
Now, moving on to your query, the monitor resolution and refresh rate largely depends on your GPU rather than CPU, and you have a 1070 in there which should be plenty for 144hz. The relevant contribution of the CPU here is to support the card fully and not limit its potential so that it can render the specs of the monitor optimally, and 8400 can do that with ease.

TLDR...8400+1070 should be fine for 1080p/144hz.

Actually, i can, the psu and cpu cooler i can change. But the options are limited..

Corsair CXM/TXM/CX(least option)
Seasonic S12II/M12II/Focus

These are usually good quality unit on budget. You can use this as loose reference... https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

Edit: The stock cooler should be fine, unless you intend to be on full load 24x7.

Will the coolermaster G750m 750 watt be better? I have no intention on overclocking whatsoever
