So my dad has an old pic with a sata 2 connection on the mobo and it boots really slowly so he wanted to install an SSD can I just install any ssd? Or do I need something specific

Solution
Yeah, any SATA SSD should work with SATA 2. However it will be limited to SATA 2 speeds, max throughput is 300mb/s most SATA SSD's are capable of quite a bit better than that. However even with that limit the SSD will still be faster than pretty much any hard drive.

Yes but their no reason to spend the money of the fastest SSD you can get a budget one will do fine and show a BIG improvement over a regular hard drive/
