I don’t want to rent my modem from Cincinnati Bell. Where can I buy a modem that works with fiber optics?
This depends on exactly what you mean by "modem".
In relation to a fiber connection, things are different and differently named.
I have a Verizon FiOS connection.
The part that does what is routinely called a "modem" is actually the ONT (Optical Network Transfer).
The part in the garage that converts from a fiber line, into either coax or ethernet that the "router" in the house can use.
The part you're almost certainly referring to is the "router". Actually a 'gateway', but we'll go with router.
In theory, I could use any router. But if I have TV service through Verizon (I do), it absolutely must have a Verizon router in there. That box talks to the TV STB's as well as providing ethernet and WiFi.
Verizon lets you buy one instead of continual rent. Which I did.
I'm not familiar with Cincy Bell's particular setup.
But what exact device do you have from them currently?
