Is it possible to stream the 4 k content from my nas (that has a single gigabit port) to my 4k hdr sony tv?
My nas is a wd mycloud gen1 with a 4 tb disk inside, with an 8 tb seagate disk attached inside. i have it attached to a gigabit switch.
would it be possible to use stream the 4 k content to my tv via an ethernet to hdmi adapter?

It mostly depends on what the TV supports. Very technically what most things call "steaming" is actually a device reading a file, this is very different than for example how a television show is broadcast over say satelite or cable tv. Even netflix is much closer to a file copy function than a data stream.

So if your tv has the ability to read the files on the NAS and play them then your can use it. There are some other methods of sending video to a tv but this requires compatible software both on your NAS and your tv. It comes back to what does your tv support.

It is not going to be a network bandwidth limitation because almost all video is compressed in some way.

HDMI and ethernet are completely different things...

HDMI and ethernet are completely different things. Although you can in some cases run HDMI signals over a the same type of cable ethernet is run over it is not actually ethernet it is just using a cable people call ethernet.

There are all kinds of devices that do this, some can play files from the NAS and then output HDMI to a tv. This maybe called a adapter but it is actually a form of computer that translating a file into video signals.
