UNMANAGED switch is limiting me? Remote desktop problem

I have a PC in a small office hooked up to an unmanaged dlink go switch. I've been trying to hard to use remote desktop on it, but all the port forwarding lead to nothing. I did some more digging and found that the router doesn't even recognize any device that is hardwired (through the switch).

Is my switch the problem?? If it is i think I'm just going to hardwire the PC directly to the router to save money on a managed switch.

Also, I am a networking intermediate with a lot of potential. So if anyone has any good resources they learned from, please send them my way.

you can RDP to the machine on the switch from other computers in the network? if not, perhaps it is something with the port you plugged into the router. if they have a switch already, plug your switch into the other switch and try.

Yes I can RDP while ON the network. The router is a generic one given by the internet company. I think that is the issue and am installing a Linksys AC1200.
