Hello there,
I'm building my new computer based on the following components:

- Intel Core i7 8700K
- Asus Rog Strix GTX1080
- G.Skill 16GB DDR4-3200 16GB DDR4 3200MHz
- Samsung SSD 850 EVO (500 GB)

And now I'm looking for a fitting motherboard which I hope I can keep up for 4-5 years.. There are several I've found so far, but it is tricky to pick one among them, at least for my limited experience on how to properly judge a motherboard.. Here are some options I've found so far, but feel free to point me out any other one else (or other better chipset?):

(On price order)
- Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming
- MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon Ac
- Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming
- Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7
(EDIT: Looking at the Z370 google sheet seems like there are some that also support 4000+ ram mhz with similar prices.. worth it?)

My usage is primarly Gaming, and Multitasking (possibly while gaming eheh..), time to time some video editing (low priority).

Thank you

The only difference between the boards on Z370 is features. More features (RGB, Wifi, more slots, etc) means higher costs. No boards are better than the others. If you get a bad motherboard it will either fail out of the box or fail within 30 days generally. This happens to all board types/brands. One board will not give you higher performance than another and if it does it is very slight as in 1-2 FPS. If someone tells you "ASUS is best" or "MSI is a cheap brand" is giving you an arbitrary opinion that is based on preferences and is generally only backed up by anecdotes.

My advice? Pick the one you like the look of most and has the features you want or fits your budget. They are all Z370.

Also, just a heads up, there is a new GPU release this month that you might want to wait for to have more options for the GPU side.

For the motherboard, any Z370 will do like jr9 said. However, I would go AsRock Extreme4 as I have some good experiences with it and it is pretty well rated.

How is that GPU release working out?

I dont share the same opinion at all.
Try overclocking on a Biostar, compared to let's say a Asus or Asrock.
Maybe if you had enough motherboards you can actually spot a pattern, MSI boards are generally good but their bios suck for some reason, specially if you overclock.

Actually Biostar has stepped up their game in the higher end boards like the z370 series and does very well for OC.

The single largest difference for most of the boards is the bios. On the cheaper boards, the bios is more user friendly, less switches to mess with, OC is limited by settings that can't be changed as the bios doesn't have them. The bios on the ROG boards is highly extensive, and will allow a greater degree of tweaking for those whom are after the highest OC levels.

For most users and overclockers, boards like the ROG series bios have so many settings/switches that the majority never get used, just left on auto.

Definitely not well.

Indeed. I was not pleased with the nVIDIA keynote last week. Jensen Huang seemed to talk about just about everything except the 20 series cards. I sat through the entire thing waiting. At least an update on the situation would have been nice. I suppose self driving cars are more important than gamers or miners.

Personally, I went for the Maximus X Hero which I notice is not on your list!

This site seems to have a good motherboard comparison table: https://www.gamerstuff.org/best-motherboard-i7-8700k-answered/
