Can't connect 2.4 GHz band when the WiFi extender is working

Hello friends,

I have a problem with my wireless connection in my home.

router+modem: Vtech IAD605D-IL (I don't know if this is the exact model - but it's a dual band router in an AC standard)

WiFi extender: EDIMAX br-6428nc

The problem: Every time the WiFi extender is working, I can't connect to the 2.4GHz band (I see the network in every device, but can't connect), but in the same time I can connect the 5 GHz band without any problem.
When I shut down the WiFi extender everything works fine and I can connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
I think that the WiFi extender don't working well with the router and this is the cause for all the problems.

Do you have any solution for the problem? should I buy a new WiFi extender?

Waiting for your answers.

It may be that your 2.4 GHz channel is too congested, and its contention window is too long, for any device to connect. Especially in an apartment building where your neighbors are using 40 MHz channel widths. If so (and you can use a wifi analyzing app to check), then a different extender wouldn't necessarily help.

Are you sure you need the extender in the first place? What's the signal strength (RSSI) of the router at the farthest point in your home without the extender?
