Combining 2 ram of different capacity

Can we combine a 4gb ram and a 2 gb ram to get a total of 6 gb ram?
I have a Laptop of 4gb ramand an old laptop of 2 gb ram.Can we combine them together?

Only if other parameters are same. Speed, latency, voltage etc. Same type of DDR of course, can't mix DDR2 and DDR3 for instance, wouldn't even fit.
