sooo. i have a motherboard that supports up to 8gb supposedly. but when i went to upgrade from 2Gb to 4 Gb it wouldn't post.
My PC intel pentium e5300 @ 2.66 GHz motherboard Asus P5QPL-AM Ram: 2gb ddr2 @ 333 MHz, GTX 745 4GB ddr3 vram and a 750 GB HDD

Solution
Try the 2GB stick one at a time, keeping the other slot empty. This way you can find out if one or both are bad sticks.

If either of the 2GB sticks do not work despite being compatible spec, then return and buy from another source or ask the reseller to test them if they are bad, then you can get it replaced.

ASUS P5QPL-AM MB supports 2 x 4GB DDR2 NON ECC sticks only

2gb ddr2 @ 333 MHz is 2GB DDR2 667MHz

High density DDR2 sticks that are available at cheap prices will not work. Reg ECC and ECC type will not work.

Remove the 2GB, install only the new memory and try.
