Hi guys,

I'm doing a half year project at my university.
We are allowed to have our own router in our own room so we can use a Zipato.(Smart home device)
We are supposed to help create real CleanTech houses in our country. Our own room is a small example on how this house is created.

The current setup we have right now, is that an own hosted server is connected to the public WiFi and shares it with the router. This way we can use some of the blocked ports.
The problem here is that the server should be online 24/7, that the internet connection is really slow and that no one wants a pc running 24/7 just to have connection with their smart home device.

We do have a ethernet plug, that is connected with the internal school network, but once plugged in there we can not use the Zipato anymore because of the blocked ports.

Is there any way to bypass these blocked ports?(We have permission from our project leader).
We have a router, modem, ethernet and WiFi connection.

Thanks in advance!

Get a faster connection, there is no magic bullet. I frankly disturbed that someone doing work at uni in this field would even think that there might be a way of 'just making it go faster'
And therein lies the problem with IoT, you need a server running 24x7, or you need a cloud provider doing the same thing, think of the environmental costs, merely so you can open and close curtains when you aren't there, or turn heating off on that one day a year when you will be so late that it makes a difference.

How about using a cheap laptop so that it can be on and quiet?
