Hi Guys,

Recently I upgraded my PS3 to 4.82 version. I have not used my PS3 for like 3 to 4 years and now I am back again trying to play, The console works like a charm, I downloaded the update through the wireless network and then it automatically started updating the update and it got stuck at 99%. I tried like 'n' number of times but no use. It showed the same result of not completing to 100%. Kept the console running like 3 to 4 hours but still no good. I have googled few related threads but I did not get the proper solution and I am not able to understand that.

Can anyone please help me out. Tell me if there is any way to update or format the HDD or anything. Please also note I have tried holding power button and get into safe mode which is not happening for me. So other than the safe mode method please let me know some other method.

Console: PS3 flat.

My PS3 looks exactly same as in the above link.

Please HELP !!! Would be very glad. Recently purchased a full HD 4K T.V and I am very eager to try my games on it.. ::(

Solution
i found this solution for the problem you are having on playstation forms that forces the console to update via USB. it seems to be working for most people

THIS IS THE QUICKEST & BEST METHOD - NO HARD DRIVE EXCHANGE REQUIRED

Download the v4.50 update from Playstation website onto your laptop or PC.

Insert a USB storage device into your computer and navigate into this and create a new folder named PS3 now double-click into this folder, then create another new folder called UPDATE, (*Note the folder names must be in CAPITAL...

Thanks for the reply, but my issue is whenever i start my PS3 the only thing shows up on screen is PS3 is updating and eventually in end till 99 % it will get stuck. So I dont know how do i get that screen off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kYHkM3bkV0

This is the screen which i get when i normally start the PS3 and i could not find a solution. The console automatically start updating without getting into any safe mode or any screen.

that is what i understood and assumed. what i was suggesting is if you can load the firmware onto a USB drive you can see if it will try to boot the firmware update automatically off it. the only other suggestion i could give if that doesn't work is to take the HDD out of the PS3 and find a computer to put it in to format the drive

Nope, it did not work out. So do i have to try formatting my HDD through PC ? and how do I do that ? I have no idea how to connect it. Will it work if format it ? I did try once removing the HDD from PS3 but I dont know how to connect it to PC. The cable's required for that, I have no idea about it. Please help me.

you would need to take the drive out of the PS3 and install it in a computer or get a USB hard drive enclosure to put it into to get a computer to access it and do a quick format. how long did you hold the power button on your PS3? to get into safe mode it says you have to hold it for 7 seconds and should hear 2 beeps

Tools required:

A Laptop or PC
USB Storage Device

Download the v4.50 update from Playstation website onto your laptop or PC.

Insert a USB storage device into your computer and navigate into this and create a new folder named PS3 now double-click into this folder, then create another new folder called UPDATE, (*Note the folder names must be in CAPITAL letters) now navigate to the v4.50 update file calledPS3UPDAT.PUP on your computer, right-click on it then copy & paste into the UPDATE folder (so technically you have the PS3 update file inside the UPDATE folder and this UPDATE folder inside the PS3 folder).

At the left-hand side of your console is a small panel that pops open to reveal a small blue screw which holds the hard drive in place (this is for the FAT version of the PS3, you will have to search the Internet to find where hard-drive is located on other versions) just below blue screw is a small metal pull out tab which forms part of the casing that holds the hard drive secure. (DO NOT PULL THIS OUT….YET).

Turn ON your console, as soon as the failing update screen appears gently pull the metal TAB to remove your hard drive from your PS3. Wait around 30 seconds to a minute and you are prompted with an error message and a 60-second restart timer which is counting down. Let this timer count right down to 0 and allow your PS3 to restart.

Turn your PS3 OFF and push your hard drive back into console. This was the tedious bit for me (getting the timing right) but hopefully the following info will make it easy for you.

IMPORTANT:

Turning your PS3 back ON and starting your stopwatch at exactly the same time is the vital step to this process (I used the stopwatch on my i-Phone).
When the stopwatch reaches anywhere between 4.5 and 5 seconds….. quickly (but gently) pull the metal TAB to remove your hard drive from the PS3.

After approximately 10-20 seconds a screen prompts you to connect your controller to the PS3 via your USB cable and to press the PS button. NOTE: You will only get this prompt by gently (but quickly) removing the hard drive at precisely the right time otherwise your PS3 will continue to try and update via the corrupted 4.50 version and if you are seeing the update attempting to re-install or seeing blank, blue, or ‘No Signal’ screens or any other message for that matter you will have to start from beginning of section 5 again until the connect your controller prompt appears.

You will then be prompted to install the failing update via USB storage device by pressing Start & Select at exactly the same time on your controller. DO NOT Insert your USB storage device at this point but still press Start & Select on your controller, another message will then appear saying ‘No Update Could Be Found’.

Gently push your hard drive back into the PS3, and it is at this point that you insert your USB device that contains the v4.50 update and repeat the update process by pressing Start & Select on your controller.

That is fine, as long as my PS3 works again and will my trophies, friends etc will also be gone. ? I mean my personal account details too ?

one more point, is it for particularly ver 4.50 because I am stuck with 4.82. Do I have to install the ver 4.50 and try the given method or i can go ahead with the latest one itself. ?

n,o stuff like that is saved on your PSN account so once you sign back into after getting your console backup you just sign back into your account and that will be synced

Thanks a lot, I did everything as mentioned and luckily i got through it and updated . I thought everything is back to normal until when it started updating again and got stuck at 99%. I don't know why this is happening again when I did all the steps correctly and even i managed to get through update process too. Do i have to wait till it completes to 100% or do i have to repeat the process again. ? I am bit worried again now since I did everything correctly. !! :??:

Hi Captain,

Any suggestion on this brother ? I tried like many times still showing the same result. ? Does anybody else has the same issue or anyone has any solution for this. I am tired doing it again and again.. I slept for like hardly 2 Hours :( Somebody please help me. !!

i think it would be best to ask this in the playstation forums. you might be able to post in that link i gave you. other then that you may have to take the drive out of the PS3 and connect it to a computer to format the drive.
