Could a loose CPU cooler/fan be responsible for memory errors?

Hello all
Over the past few months, I was getting various BSOD errors resulting in my desktop restarting, some of which are listed below
Bad pool header BSOD
Memory Management BSOD
Kernel Data Image BSOD
Page fault in non paged area BSOD

I'd also noticed Chrome tabs crashing (only those on the same website), some programs not loading at startup, "NVIDIA Backend has stopped working", and "Adblock had crashed".

Running memcheck multiple times has not identified anything significant, and the computer finally shut down a few days ago, now only getting to the startup screen of loading the OS (Win 7) before shutting down again. I opened the case and found the CPU cooler/fan had come off the CPU as the plastic bracket holding it to the motherboard had snapped. I've ordered a replacement, but find it odd that all the errors could be due to CPU overheating? I'm wondering if there are motherboard problems given that the computer is 6 years old... or something else I'm not considering. Any thoughts or help is appreciated!

XFX Radeon HD 6770 850M 1GB DDR5 PCIe HDMI/DVI/VGA
8 GB of RAM

UPDATE
Hello again - I replaced the brackets and reattached the sink/fan; the idling temp is low 40s and load mid 50s (I know this might be a bit high, but it's what the system was running at before). The number of BSOD have greatly decreased (only had two on Saturday after replacing it Thursday), but the Chrome crashes and startup programs not loading have persisted. I ran Windows memcheck multiple times with no errors identified, but strangely each time chkdsk has run it did not complete.

I'd greatly appreciate some thoughts/directions - currently, I have the following possible hypothesis:
*Failing HD
*Failing memory chip with problems not identified by memcheck
*Failing CPU fan (even though it was replaced two year ago, I noticed the SpeedFan app will show it going from 1618RPM to 0 and then back to 1618 for about two seconds, even though it doesn't show the CPU temp changing)

Thanks - the bracket came today so I will see if anything else arises
