Hello,

First post on the forum and I'm wondering if someone can clear up a question on the pci express standard.

I have a computer (Dell 8100) with the H57 chip set on it. The intel spec sheet says it support s pci-e 2.0 at only 2.5 gt\s.

Every other article I read on pci-e says the 2.0 standard offers 5.0 gt\s per pci-e lane.

The reason I ask is because I was going to install a USB3.0 pci card and perhaps a SATA3 pci card. To get the benefit of both it need at least 5 GT\s from pci-e 2.0.

I doubt intel are wrong on their spec sheet, so that raises the question; how can you have a pci-e 2.0 spec MB but only get 1.0 speeds?

This effectively means that just quoting the pci-e version number on a MB doesn't mean anything in terms of transfer speed.

Thanks,
