I bought a new i5 8400 and a B250-HD3 mobo and put it all in just to see it not boot up only to realize the chipsets don't match up. So did I kill my cpu when I pushed the power button or do you think it will still work when I get the proper mobo?

Also the mobo is new from Amazon will I be able to return it even though it was my fault for not matching chipsets?

Solution

Your CPU should have suffered no damage, and should be good to go.
As far as the MOBO is concerned, contact Amazon and see. They are generally pretty accommodating.
