PSU up to snuff I'm pretty sure, but modular cable hard to find, very scared of splitters.

I have a Pc Power and Cooling Silencer Mk3 600W semi modular.

I also have a Seahawk ek x and a gigabyte founders edition both 1070s.

The Ek X requires an 8 pin and 6 pin connector which eats up my included cables. Is running two 150w cards on a 600w power supply not realistically safe somehow?

If this modular cable even exists I'm not sure I could get one. If the PSU is good quality and pushes enough watts are splitters still scary?

the seahawk ek x is actually a founders card with watercooling. the FE cards hit power limits with the single 8-pin so with a cooler card, the figured an extra 6-pin would let you get that extra bit of power to oc a touch more. not that it nets any better performance but that's why it has it.

and splitting a single 8-pin (again 150w connection) into 2 x 8-pin (now 300w possible pull) is a terrible idea. a 6-pin is wir4ed so that it should handle a 150w 8-pin load but an 8-pin is not designed to push 300w at all. splitting for more connections does not make power produce out of nowhere.

only type of adapter than can be useful is one that combines 2 sata or molex into a 6-pin connection (i'd say go for it if that's all you needed)...

i don't know what to think of that psu. it puts out 552w on the 12v rail so it is actually a 550w psu and not 600w one. it reviewed well though despite the shortage of pcie connectors.

the reviews stated that the pcie connections used an 8-pin connection to the psu while the others used 6-pin ones. (not the end that hooks to the card but the other end that hooks to the psu itself) so it would seem that you could not get extra cables to plug in anyway as they not have any 8-pin connections to plug into.

i hate the idea of adapters in almost every case. if you only needed a 6-pin connection, then i'd say go for it. but an 8-pin provides 150w of power and 2 molex or sata connections will not provide that power to the card. so you'd likely have issues even if you left everything at stock settings. so i'd suggest a new psu that actually has the needed connections. trying to jerry-rig 150w's of power from molex/sata power connections is not a good idea at all.

What about the splitters though? I saw somewhere on a forum where someone said a single rail psu with enough watts should be able to push enough. Now for all I know that guy was talking out of his ass, would an 8 to 2x 6+2 work?

Oh also, any idea why a seahawk ek x takes 8+6? its a pretty standard card with no fans to push....overclocks just the same as my founders edition really though it stays a lot cooler doing it.

only type of adapter than can be useful is one that combines 2 sata or molex into a 6-pin connection (i'd say go for it if that's all you needed). but again they would not provide the 150w an 8-pin needs. i'd say go for it combining for another 6-pin but trying to get an 8-pin out of them is not a good idea nor would it work very well. the stock answer is simply that the company knew the psu could not provide the power so they left the connection off. not sure why this decent psu only provided 225w worth of pcie connections but it is hard to combine to create another 150w one from 50w molex/sata connections.
