I5 8400 with gtx1080 (strix) @1440p 144hz?

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor ( Acer predator w/ G sync) and I am wondering if an I5 8400 with gtx1080 (Strix) will be able to handle 1440p @ 144hz?

I am hoping to get 100+fps on games such as SC2, Overwatch and a few future AAA titles.

Any help is appreciated!

Less demanding Esports and most AAA titles won't be a problem reaching 144fps at 1440p. However the gtx 1080 won't be able to support frame rates this high for future triple A titles on ultra settings. This is perfectly fine because that will also be the case with the 1080ti eventually. You'll just have to upgrade your graphics card in the future along with the rest of us.

Yep it's fine. At resolutions above 1080p most games are way more dependent on the graphics card anyway.
