New Desktop PC Build lagging/freezing/restarting

Hello guys,

I’ve just built a new desktop PC and something odd is happening. When it boots up I can use windows without a problem, but slowly but surely the interface starts to get laggy e.g. explorer window taking time to appear, mouse jumping over the screen etc. Usually the screen just goes black after this, but not always, and the PC tries to restart. Sometimes it goes into recovery mode when trying to start again and the display sometimes glitches out too, such as random dots/colours and slow reveal effect from left to right.

Specs:

Processor: Intel i7 8700k
Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-A
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz
SSD: Samsung 960 Evo M.2
Graphics Card: Asus Nvidia GTX 770
PSU: Corsair RX750 watt

I’ve updated the bios/drivers, ran a memory test, reinstalled windows and tried my graphics card in my old PC build and it’s still working fine, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

James.

Hi Robert, I did yes. The problem was also occurring before I updated the BIOS. I thought updating it may have resolved the issues, but it didn’t.

Faulty maybe? It’s just I’ve never seen a new build that just starts to lag and freeze up, then eventually just power down/restart.

My bad, it’s a Corsair RX750 Watt. It’s the same power supply from my old pc build and it’s been running just fine?

I downloaded the latest ones off the ASUS website, as well as the BIOS update.

I resinstalled Windows on the new 960 M.2 drive and still had the problems. I tried installing Windows on an old 840 Evo SSD I had and also still had the issue, so it’s not the drives. Asus GTX 770 is connected using an 8 pin and 6 pin, I believe. Thanks for your time and help! I appreciate it. I’m beginning to believe the motherboard could be faulty?

Do you have windows 8 or 8.1? If soo download it and try.
Did you try one stick of ram, see in bios if the voltage is correct for Ram (should be side of sticker on ram).
Usually low voltage causes stutters, did you set high perfomance in power plan?

I've read that windows patch/update caused that.

Well last option is RMA.

Update:
Found something, did you update last Lan driver for motherboard?
Download CPU-Z and post screenshot of it, while using AIDA 64 stress test (if voltage fluctuates i cannot see if the voltage is going to its regular or undervolting the CPU soo that causes stutters).
Try to reseat CPU, try ram slots.

Go to event viewer and see critical errors under Windows Logs-> Application and System.

Some say that windows update because of CPU vulnerability is causing that issues.

Or it could be CPU.

Yeah try these few things before RMA anything.

Think it may be a RAM issue, going to try RAM replacement and see how that goes. Thanks for your help.
