Connect 2 PCs directly with a patch cable

I have 2 computers and want to connect them by wire to move some large files. They both are connected wirelessly to my network so transferring isn't a problem, it will just be slower. I just thought since they are right next to each other and I have a patch cable laying around it might be possible to connect them. All the information I can find is for crossover cables. I am using the built in Intel nics of the z270 tuf mark 1 and the x370 taichi.

Solution
As long as both PC are 1000BASE-T gigabit ethernet the patchcord should work as a crossover cable with the adapters doing the negotiating. You might need to set a temporary IP address on the cards 192.168.23.1 and 192.168.23.2 with 255.255.255.0 subnet and disable the wireless temporarily.

Well at this point it's more of an experiment than actually worrying about my files. It's just games. I have a switch and a long Ethernet cable coming via eBay to hard wire them with.

I'll try that thank you. I used 192.168.0.1 and .2 before and didn't disable the wireless.

No I'm just moving things around so I'm further from the wifi so I had the cable coming before I even realized I wanted to move stuff. It's for a better internet connection more than for connecting the computers.
Thank you kraelic, it worked. Ever had one of those moments when you realize you have been a total idiot? That's what I had when I realized it all didn't matter because the files are on my hard drive and were being written to hdd not my ssds. Lol. My wifi would have been fine. But at least I learned something.
