hi.i'm planning on buying a PC for gaming.
i know what i'm going to buy for Ram,Graphic card and other parts.
but i'm in a doubt when it comes to CPU.right now i'm deciding between these two cpus:
Core i5 8600k = 320$ and Asus Strix Z370-F Gaming = 240$ ==> 560$
Ryzen 7 1700x - 325$ and Asus Strix B350-F Gaming = 150$ ==> 475$

the price in my country is a little bit odd , i know.
i'm a console player so i'm ok with 60fps in 1080p BUT i'm trying to migrate back to PC gaming so i'll be using this PC for gaming in the next 4 years.60fps is ok for me but more fps, more fun. :D
which CPU should i get?which one is better for gaming?

and one small question, does Ryzen 7 1700x comes with a cooler, small fan or not?should i buy one for Ryzen 7?

If you're going to be only gaming, the 8600k will serve you better for now. However, the 1700x may be better in the future if more games are optimised to use 8 cores. It all depends on if you want better performance for the next few years or possible future proofing. Another thing to keep in mind is that the AM4 socket will be supported until at least 2020, meaning that if you go with the ryzen, you can upgrade your cpu later down the line without having to invest in a new motherboard.

Also, the 1700x does not come with a cooler, and you will definitely need to buy one, but same goes with the 8600k.

i know that AM4 socket will be supported until 2020 , but 2020 is 2 years away and by that time i have to change the whole motherboard/cpu together either if i choose intel or amd.so the support isn't that big of a deal and i'm not that kind of person who upgrade.i build a new pc.
i've seen some benchmarks and comparison which said that Core i5 8600k is better in games.it can give around 10 to 40 more frames compared to ryzen 7.

i just searched and saw that K series doesn't have cooler. :(

The above poster has a point. Traditional wisdom was that a quad core CPU was enough for gaming. It still is in many cases, but you are starting to see a few games that are wanting more cores. I think one example is battlefield 1 where some folks with quad cores would get stuttering. Also, consoles are using CPUs with more cores so you can imagine that more games at some point will take advantage of more cores. That said the i5 will do fine for a while. The ryzen is a few percentage points behind the i5 for pure gaming, but will still do well at it.

You might look into the ryzen 1600x which is a 6 core and ryzen chip, and has hyperthreading. So it acts like a 12 core. It will give you most of the power of the 1700x but at a lower price.

If only aiming for 60 FPS both cpu’s will achieve that easily. If you were aiming for high FPS for a high Hz monitor then the 8600k wins in the benchmarks. Strong cores (high IPC) is still important for high FPS gaming.

How interested are you in over clocking?

first i was going for Ryzen 5 1600x which is really cheap around here.around 200 190$.
but after i searched if it's good for gaming or not, a lot of people said that i5 8600k is better and in that range i saw that Ryzen 7 1700x.

as i said before i'm ok with 60fps and my monitor is 60hz so higher than this is just a waste but i'm planning to upgrade my monitor to something newer but it might be the next year or 10 month from now.
how about Ryzen 5 1600x?

after all these replies i think that while 8600k is better in gaming but 1700x or 1600x are better options for future games which might use more cores/threads.right?

Hmm trying to predict the future is risky, personally I’d base any decision on facts and the benchmarks show the 8600k is better for pure gaming. If my money and building a gaming pc I’d pick the 8400 or 8600k. People used to say the FX series would catch up on Intel as more cores started to be used but that never happened, it’s weaker cores became a problem.

thank you all for your advice.i'm going to buy Ryzen 5 1600x for now.it's way cheaper here and can do what i need it to do right now.maybe in future i update the cpu and graphic card.maybe when i bought a better monitor.thank you all.

Good deal. Just remember you will need to buy a cooler that supports socket am4.

Make sure to get a board that is at least a b350 series board. If you are someone who overclocks, consider picking up the ryzen 1600 instead. It's basically the same as the 1600x, but it's cheaper and has 6 cores with hyperthreading but just has a lower stock clock speed. However, it should come with a stock cooler and can usually overclock to about the speed of the more expensive 1600x. I have my 1600 overclocked to 3.7ghz. So it might be worth looking at. However, if you aren't someone who likes to overclock, then I'd recommend the 1600x, just remember to budget for a cooler for it n

depends on the games you play, there is no generic answer.

If you only play triple AAA western developed games, then more cores is the winner. although bear in mind intels coffee lake has a circa 30% performance per core advantage over ryzen which is quite big.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1700X/3941vs3915

So basically there needs to be a 30% increase in core count to match that, however the ryzen also has hyperthreading which in optimal conditions provides about a 40% performance level of a real core.

Its multi core is 50% faster so it does counter the 30% deficit and adds 50% on top.

If you play low budget games, older games, and JRPG games, then I would go with the 8600k.

Reviewers very predominately bench western developed triple AAA titles, which to me paints a bit of a false picture as they are only a very small part of games released but they get reviewed because of their popularity.
