This is my 9th or 10th build. Never had a problem like this.

1). Install CPU in motherboard (I5-7600K into a MSI Z370).

2). Install heat sink and connect heat sink fan to MB. (212 Coolermaster).

3). Screw motherboard into case and connect Front panel header, USB, HD audio and case fan.

4). Screw PSU into case. (Corsair CX650M).

5). Connect 24 Pin power to motherboard.

6). Power up. Both case and CPU fans power up continuously.

7). Power down. Connect 8 pin CPU power to motherboard.

8). Power up. Both fans spin for 1/2 second then machine powers down.

-Have tried two different CPUs with identical results.
-Have tried three different PSUs with identical results.
-Have not yet connected SSD, video card or ram.

Any ideas what is happening?

Solution
Motherboard isn't compatible. You are running a z370, you either need to go back to the z170 with a bios update, or z270. Alternatively, return the 7600k and get an 8th generation part. Maybe the i5 8600k? That's a6 core instead of a quad. Some guys go with the i5 8400.

Personally, I have a ryzen 1600 overclocked, but I guess you don't want to go that route:)
