Migrating Old HDD Boot drive to new SSD

The tutorials I've found don't seem to cover my problem. When I built my workstation 7 years ago I installed two Hard drives, a 500Gb for boot and a Terrabyte for data. I've got a new SSD installed and running (thanks Ragnar if you're reading this). When I went shopping for the SSD I looked and I was only using 145 Gigs on my old boot drive so I bought a 240 Gig SSD. I thought it would be a simple matter to isolate those 145 Gigs before moving them over. But I can't find anything covering that. Is that Data just strewn across the drive like salt on an omelet? Shrinking only seems to take 8 gigs off the total and the user folders another 48.5. Solution
If your new ssd is a Samsung unit, use their free ssd migration app.
It is a windows C drive mover, not a clone.
It is a free proprietary adaption of clonix.
The app adjusts for size and has worked flawlessly for me many times.

If the ssd is another brand, see if they offer a migration app; many do.

Otherwise, look into macrium reflect.
