CPU Cooler fan suddenly stopped working?

Hello people of Tom's Hardware.

I was playing a game and when I looked into my case, I suddenly noticed that the fan of my CPU cooler stopped working. I have looked around a tad online and it said my CPU fan was dead or it didn't get enough power. The latter is impossible because I have recently only just got a new powersupply.

Fan speed in the BIOS says N/A and when I restart my PC, the fan doesn't spin at all. It only spins when I give it a little spin with my finger, then it continues to spin. But it still doesn't regonize the fan within the motherboard, but atleast it spins, right?

Anyways, I have already ordered a new CPU fan. The CPU fan in question is the Noctua NH-U14S - I have ordered a new Noctua NH-U14S aswell, and I will send back the current one I have for warranty.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my CPU fan? Or is it just dead? Or slowly dying? Also, considering it spins up now fine and continues spinning (though I have to give it a spin with my finger) yet it's not recognized in the motherboard. Is this a problem? Or can I just continue keep using my PC as well, the fan spins after all.

Thanks!

Okay, update. I have replaced the old CPU cooler with the same one but new as it came in today.

No issues whatsoever, fan works normally in the same port. Guess the 140mm fan was just broken or something, no idea.
Going to contact Noctua for RMA, perhaps they can send me a new 140mm fan even though I don't need it, good to have a backup I guess.

Hi,
Have yo tried plugging another fan on the same port? Have you tried to plug this fan to another port on your mobo?
It's very probably faulty, you can try setting a fan mode profile to turbo or something similar in bios
Meanwhile yes you can use it if it spins just set up a warning CPU temperature in bios to something like 80-90c just in case if it stops spinning and you don't notice. Having temp control software will be nice.
Cheers.

Sorry for late reply! No, I have not tried to switch it up and put it into another port. My BIOS continues to say that I do not have a CPU fan, my CPU fan speed is 'N/A' even though it spins just fine. I have to jump-start it with a little flick with my finger though.

Then it just continues to spin until I turn off the PC, however it'll still say N/A with fan speed.

Today I get the new CPU Cooler, I will RMA this one. Hopefully it'll solve it.
