Which is better for gaming ? i3-8350k or i5-8400 ?

Solution

They're pretty similar in gaming but the 8400 is much more future proof. The 8350k is going to struggle in a few years time when more games are optimised to use more than 4 cores, and even struggles now in some games.

Neither of these CPUs have hyperthreading. The 8350K has four physical cores, while the 8400 has six, and they are both about the same price. An overclocked 8350K might offer slightly higher frame rates in some of today's games, but I can't help but think the 8400 might offer more stable gaming performance down the line, once more games are making better use of additional processor threads. It's honestly kind of difficult to say for sure though. Most people still have processors with four threads, so most games will likely continue to be optimized to offer reasonable performance on such systems for some time to come.

the 8350 is merely the old 7600K rebadged....

I'd avoid 4c/4 thread processor gaming solutions henceforth, as many modern games are already doing better with 6 cores.

The 8400 with it's 6 true cores did very well in all it's gaming benchmarks from what I have read, and appears to be a logical candidate for 'gaming bargain powerhouse'.
