Safe Overclock for i7 8700K and Strix 1080 Ti?

I have just purchased computer components for my new PC, and I am planning to overclock it once I have everything set up. For cooling, I'm using the Corsair H115i Pro RGB 280mm Radiator. Since I am new to overclocking, I was wondering what would be a safe 24/7 overclock for my i7-8700K. I want to get the maxixum performance out of my machine, however I don't want to fry my CPU. For both my CPU and GPU, I am only looking for a safe overclock which I hopefully will not have to look at again, thus it needs to be stable even when running the most demanding programs.

Now, for my GPU I have the ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING GeForce 11GB OC Edition VR Ready 5K HD Gaming HDMI DisplayPort DVI Overclocked PC GDDR5X Graphics Card. I chose this card because it's relatively quiet, has great cooling, and keeps good performance. So, my main question regarding my GPU is this: Even though this card comes pre overclocked, is it worth manually overclocking it more, and if so what would be a good 24/7 overclock that will hold up when running 1440p AAA games on ultra settings? I also want to say that I will be experimenting with Heaven Benchmark to see how this card holds up with my specific cooling setup, I am just looking for relative numbers.

Thanks in advance to any replies.

If your MB flavor supports MCE (running all cores at up to max turbo speed of 4.7 GHz if cooling is sufficient), that would seem more than an ambitious enough start....; hard to imagine framerates seeming 'not enough' with that CPU and GPU, and, unless playing at 1080P on a 144Hz monitor, it's hard to imagine it ever feeling 'not quite enough'.

At least with MCE on and in balanced power mode, it only ramps up the clock speeds when needed, such as under gaming/heavy loads, without need to run it locked/fixed at constant 4.8 - 5.0 GHz and above just to read THF, surf Youtube, etc...

Nice darn rig, enjoy it!

Hi Aidan,

As long as you stay below 80°C in burn test and below 1.35-1.4V (depends on your comfty zone) you should be fine.
With the 8700K it's really easy to achieve 5GHz.

So enjoy but remember to go step by step and keep an eye on thermals.
