Hello, I want to know if something like this is possible:
Making a partition of my hard drive, without erasing eveything. So I can leave a partition only containing my OS. Because I want to clone said OS to a new HD
Thanks

Solution

HDD to SSD is what that was written for.

I've never used AOEMI. It may work, it may not.
I much prefer Macrium. I know it works. The Samsung Data Migration as well.

What size is the source drive?
How much consumed space is on it?
What constitutes that space?
what size is the new drive?

Resizing the partitions after all the data exists is a bit problematic.
You can only shrink the existing 1TB partition to ~800GB. You can't simply split the data and resize at the same time.

Do you have another drive available? Possibly you could move some Steam games and other personal data off to that drive.
Not applications, just personal data.

Yes, I have an external hard drive, its 1TB as well.

OK then.
Migrating to that 250GB drive will require that the actual used space be no larger than 200GB.
Not the partition size, just the actual data.

Move stuff off the current drive to the external, to get to that goal.

Then we can discuss actual steps for the migration.

OK...may take a little more (under 200GB), but close enough to try it.

This was written for SSD's, but will work exactly the same going to your HDD:

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the 450MB Recovery Partition, here:

-----------------------------

Thank you for everything.
Another questions: Its from an HDD to an SSD ( the new one), is that a problem?
Should I use Samsung Data Migration? I have AOEMI as well.

Sorry to bother you again.
This means it worked, right (since it boots from C:/)

Can I format the old HDD, now with no problem right?
Thanks!!!

Yes, it appears to have worked.
You can remove that drive letter E from the System Reserved partition.

Please post a screencap of your Disk Management window.
