Hello everyone, I'm in need of some advice regarding my GPU upgrade. I would like to know the best type of card I can use with my mini-computer

It's a pre-built HP with modest specs, and it's actually not a bad gaming PC, but I need it ready for VR (HTC Vive to be specific). Here's all the information...

I've taken some pictures of the insides for everyone to look at... would I be able to fit a 1070 or 1080 ITX card with this small amount of space? There is very little room left as you can see lol

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

You might run into issues with the HP HD not wanting to run with other motherboards, devices, etc. My first PC was an HP around 2006, which had a locked bios (no OC) and it had an odd python script that acted like a tamper-resistant code that prevented it from being transferred to something else or upgraded IIRC (been ages).

IF HP still uses this or something like it, you might start getting odd errors specific to HP. In my case, I was able to delete the offending python script and it at least unlocked the HD if I'm remembering it right.

As others stated, better to get a new mobo, gpu, psu, etc. IF the PC case has a windows ID sticker, SAVE that. You should be able to install a fresh OS on a fresh SSD (w/o all the bloatware BS HP...
The best type of card you can use with that would be the 1050 or 1050Ti maximum. From the looks of it, it has only a 180W PSU, which is WAYYYYYY below the needed for the 1070 or 1080. Before any upgrade, you need to swap out that PSU.

Also, the 1050/ 1050Ti are not for VR, so upgrading to them is not the best option.

Buy a motherboard/case/psu, move the CPU, RAM and HD from the HP to the new setup, re-install Windows. You will have a new system for about 1/2 price of a full new one, not counting the cost of a better video card, which are at very high prices now. You can get a good quality barebones setup for about $200 or less. About $80 for a good motherboard without fancy stuff, $50 for a PSU, same for a case. You can probably find some used parts on craigslist, especially for a case, those don't go bad or crash on you LOL

PSU, this is good for the price and will run just about any video card https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151202

Well I asked for some phyiscal help and managed to order a 1070 ITX card! (Gigabyte) =)
I'm going to add 450-600w PSU and if there's money left... rip out the optical drive for an SSD

Who needs an optical drive these days... right?

The build is definitely a little strange, but I think it's okay for upgrading a prebuilt... and now I have the gtx 1050 for my old Dell XPS!
Thanks for helping guys!

You got a 1070 video card? Did you check if your power supply has the power connections and wattage to run it?

According to the specs on the system you linked it has a 180 watt PSU which won't even power the card on it's own properly, never mind the rest of the components.

You NEED a new power supply, it's not an "if you have the money" thing.

You should be able to install a fresh OS on a fresh SSD (w/o all the bloatware BS HP ships with). Dunno if you still have to call MS to get it running on non HP or not anymore. I seem to remember having to do this, but that was back in the winxp days.
