Hello,

Im looking to buy gtx 1050ti and dont know which cpu would be better with it? Thinking about i5-8400, would that be a good pairing?? I want to buy a cheaper gpu such as 1050ti and plan to buy some better maybe in a year or something.

Thanks

I think your plan is reasonable.
You might even consider building using the integrated HD630 graphics for starters.
Graphics prices are high today so be cautious about prices.
GTX1050ti is a very good card and I think you would be pleased.
I would buy a EVGA card just in case you decide you want a stronger card and want to use their 90 day free trade up program.

Do plan on using a stronger psu than the GTX1050ti requires.
A 650w unit will power even a GTX1080ti.
It will only consume the wattage required of it, regardless of the max capability.
I like the Seasonic focus units.

I am not enamored with ryzen for gaming.
The single thread performance is not as good as Intel.

The upcoming generation may be better.
Ryzen is picky about...
I would not get a CPU more expensive than the 8400. The 1050ti is a budget GPU and the 8400 is a midrange CPU. So it is not a bad pairing. Typically, GPUs show their age long before a CPU, so getting the 8400 now will give your a really nice foundation for you platform for the next several years.

Not sure when you are looking to buy, but AMDs new Ryzen CPUs will be released in April and they may challenge the 8400.

Thank you for the answer. Well, I have been without a pc for about four months now and I just got the right amount of money to build one. So I didnt really want to wait and just get the best I can right now with a cheaper GPU and upgrade later. But do you think it will be worth it to wait for new Ryzen CPUs?

Ryzen is picky about ram.
Hopefully, they have resolved that issue.

Worth is something only YOU can determine.
If you have a need now, buy now.

I don't know if it will be worth it to wait for the new Ryzen, Intel has the lead in gaming. If I were building a gaming rig today I would put an Intel CPU inside of it. But if I were building a gaming rig next month, I would wait and see the reviews of the new AMD CPUs.
