if i overclock my 6700 do i need to overclock my motherboard too or can i just overclock the cpu and pay the motherboard OC no mind?

To overclock with intel you need a K at the end of the CPU and a motherboard with a Z in the numbering. So a 6700k paired with a Z170 board.

Well, it's not impossible to overclock, just impossible to get good results.
