phone over RJ45?

Greetings, all!
I currently have the classic 3-bundle through my ISP (Atlantic Broadband)--internet, cable and phone--and like most people, am getting violated monthly on rental fees. I want to procure my own modem/router so the ISP can pound sand on the fees. BUT--the ISP-supplied modem is the venerable Arris TM822 with integrated RJ11 jack, and it seems impossible to find a new cable modem (preferably w/integrated router) that includes this port. So my question is, can I connect my phone to a standard Ethernet port, by way of a RJ45-RJ11 adapter, and have it work, or am I SOL?

A quick look through the list doesn't appear to show any modems that are telephony capable, but you may want to have a more thorough look.

Unfortunately an RJ45 to RJ11 adapter will not work. You'll need a modem with telephone jacks for phone service.

While a plug is a plug and you can plug most anything anywhere (with the right adapter), you can't plug a regular phone into a port supplying Ethernet and have it work. They run on different voltage, different communications protocols, etc ... so, it won't work.

That said, you can plug a VoIP box into an Ethernet port and plug the phone into that box (like Vonage or Ooma) and no longer use Atlantic Broadband's VoIP service (you might even be able to keep your number).

got the same modem from my provider get phone provided by cable for home and hook it to , then use the rj 11 for home phone line with the rj 45 for the net on computer .
