gtx 970 4 gb with current setup

Currently have a fx 4300 processor and 8gb ram. Will the 970 be compatible with this setup or do I need to make any changes? I'm using it primarily for gaming

Don't just get any 500W power supply. Get a good quality unit that has proven to be reliable.

As for a CPU, I'd suggest saving your money for a new platform (CPU/Mobo/RAM). The FX series altogether is old, slow, and obsolete. You'd want to save for a AMD Ryzen or Intel 8th-gen system.

The GTX 970 is a good card to have, so long as you aren't paying close to what a GTX 1060 costs I'd get it. Using MSI Afterburner or similar hardware monitoring program see how much the GPU is being underutilized in your system. That will push you to save up for a new system.

(Cheapest and easiest option) Or, just get a GTX 1050 and be done with it. You wouldn't even need a...

Do you have any specific recommendations for the psu and cpu? I play mostly LoL and fortnite.


edit: I'm aware the minimum psu to handle the 970 is 500w and am looking to purchase a new one as my current psu can only handly 350w.
