Tom's Guide has a list of classic games: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/486-best-free-classic-pc-games.html#s5
Wikipedia also has a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_video_games_released_as_freeware

Steam has a free-to-play section/genre: http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Free%20to%20Play/. However, specs will vary.

For classics, Command and Conquer: Red Alert would be my pick, along with Marathon. One campaign in Starcraft 2 has been made free too. But let us know your computer specs.

Well, what are the specs of your laptop? You can try a game called Rules of Survival, its a free game thats not hard to run, I play it on integrated graphics at around 60 fps at medium settings. It's similar to PubG and Fortnite

1. Rollcage and rollcageII. It's a playstation port. System Requirements: Pentium MMX 166 Mhz, 32 MB RAM, Windows 95
http://www.oldpcgaming.net/rollcage-stage-2-review/ The issue is the game runs too fast on most newer pc's.
2. Call of Duty1, it's world war 2 and has Direct X8.1b graphics. This game is still popular and i still have it, the servers are still alive with people still playing in them. Something like a athlon1.0Ghz and geforce2 will run the game at med to high settings.
3. Serious Sam2. Pretty good graphics, but will run on very little.
4. Unreal tournament 2003\2004. The box says athlon or pentumII 733mhz or Pentium 4 1.0ghz, 128mb mem, win98\2000\XP DirectX 6, 16mb Nvidia tnt2, Geforce2 or radeon 7000 . There is even a linux port. The servers likely are still working, there is an insane number of custom maps and mods.
5. Bloodrayne2. The graphics look good it's a DX9.0C game. So a Athlon 1.3ghz and ATI 9600. In the game basically your a Grumpy Vampire lady who has a sword, its a hack and slash game but it has a Assasin's creed level between each hack and slash level so you must do a bunch of climbing or special fighting to get to the next hack and slash level. It's quite a bit like Assasin's creed actually.
6. Willrock. I got this game free with a ati-9600XT. It also shipped with the ATI92050SE. It runs great on those cards, it's very close to the current Serious Sam HD but has a Raider's of the lost ark theme. Basically you play a guy who resembles Harisson Ford and shoot at the bad guys with your trusty 44 or 38 and a shotgun and dodge rotating metal blades and falling rocks and monsters chucking fireballs at you. Each time you take treasure or go past a certain point more bad guys come out or bad things happen. Just like in Raider's of the lost ark.
7. Midnight Club II. Athlon1.3ghz, Pentium4 2.0ghz, P3 1.3ghz, Geforce2 or ati radeon 8500. Win98\XP. This game has fairly good graphics for needing so little to run. The game is basically your the fast and furious guy who is racing in the city.
8. Sega daytona USA. Runs on something like a 80486 DX66. It's a sega saturn port.
9. Ubisoft's Beyond good and evil.
10. Ubisoft's Rayman Origins. A classic side scroller game sorta like Sega sonic a bit.
11. Max Payne. There is a android cell phone version too. In the game your a Italian cop guy who thinks he is Clint Eastwood and get's the job done with his trusty 44 or shotgun. A bit like willrock but the levels look more like FEAR. It looks like they used a graphics engine like in COD1.
12 Hitman sniper. Again there is a android version.
13. Sega's sonic. Yes it runs on android.
14. Need for speed hot pursuit, another game that has a android version.
15. Epic pinball.
16. F.E.A.R. it's a DX9.0C game but they leave a option for DX8.1b graphics. This game is a classic of all time and has fairly good graphics.
Some of these games may not run on newer versions of windows, most windows 98 and xp games will run in vista, 7 and newer, but not all of them.

Most of these games have playable demos.
