Replacing cheap Technicolor router

I'm currently using the very basic Technicolor TG582n router that came free from my internet provider.
Due to the rather poor Wifi range and speeds, and with the increase of Wifi connected devices in my home I am considering an upgrade, but am not sure what to go for.

I'm also not completely sure what kind of router I need, but currently have a FTTC fibre connection, which is linked up with a seperate Openreach modem, which then connects to my router via its WAN port.
So am I right in thinking a VDSL router would allow me to get rid of the seperate modem? And is it best to do that or keep the seperate modem?

I don't really want to spend more than £100, so I'm really looking for advice on what the best 'all round' router is for my configuration, baring in mind really good Wifi speeds, with decent coverage is top priority.

Unless you posted the wrong model number I can't see how you have this hooked up.

The router you list only accepts ADSL as its wan connection. I am unsure what the other box you call a modem does. If the modem box takes fiber as its input it tends to be almost impossible to replace. Most ISP will not allow you to replace it even if you found some hardware.

I bet the fiber box is just converting it to dsl so you will need a router with dsl. Many of the FTTC boxes output VDSL for faster speeds but you would have to check the ISP restrictions. You likely could replace the router but you will have to keep the so called modem.
