Hi all, I'm going to be upgrading my i5-6500 to an i7-7700k. I play a lot of stratergy games, and the single core CPU strength is not keeping up with my gtx1080 and 144hz monitor too well.

I currently have a h170 motherboard, so I'm not looking to overclock the CPU anytime soon. My biggest issue right now is finding a good cooler. I've read many recommendations in other posts, but these can often be parallel import/stupidly overpriced over here in Japan.

I have a Coolermaster k282 KWN1 case, the dimensions are listen as 22 x 48.3 x 41.6 cm

My Ram is Corsair Vengeance LPX, 2x4GB, DDR4 2133MHz

My current choices of fans are:

Quietly. BK008 Pure Rock Slim CPU Cooler W TDP 120Watt https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E9%9D%99%E3%81%8B%E3%81%AB%E3%80%82BK008-%E3%83%94%E3%83%A5%E3%82%A2%E3%83%AD%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF-%E3%82%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A9%E3%83%BC-120W-BK008/dp/B01KVNCEIG/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1520944792&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=be%2Bquiet%2Bpure&th=1

Please note that the H7 and i32 both cost about $53 USD over here.

Thanks for any help or input!!

Thanks for the reply!

Is the cooler I linked a normal one? Often, Japanese amazon can have fake/outdated models on their website due to many foreign parts being unpopular.

Cheers. I've picked it up and the parts will be arriving tomorrow!

There are many positive reviews of Scythe in Japan, so I believe the part should go well.

However... there were many youtube videos of people installing it (I wanted to watch some videos to learn how to before it arrives) were they smudge the thermal paste all around the edges of the cpu, either with their fingers or a brush ....

This is ... wrong ... right? You're supposed to put a dab in the middle and just slowly press it on right?

As long as you get a thin film between the CPU and the heatsink, you are good to go. There are multiple methods for how to accomplish. Keep in mind that more is not better, thin is good.

The Scythe may arrive with some pre-applied, if so the work is done.
