Long story short, built a pc about 6 weeks ago, everything was working great. About two weeks ago I updated the drivers for my gigabyte gt1050 graphics card. I restarted the computer, and on restart the computer stopped posting. Breadboarded the thing and still got no response, expected motherboard had died. So I got Microcenter (Great Place!) to replace both the motherboard and CPU that I got from them. (Ryzen 1700). I also got a new EVGA power supply because I was paranoid.

Jump to 4 days ago, I rebuild computer with new parts, It boots up great and is running perfect. I did not overclock anything. Cut to yesterday after work, I powered up the computer and browsed the internet just fine. I decided all must be good and that I wanted to overclock the memory. Never got the chance. Used start menu to restart the computer, it turned off and upon restart it no posted. Exact same thing as before.

My question is... Possibility of something else plugged into the motherboard killing it randomly on restarts? Or did I have bad luck?

What memory did you have?
What is the model of your new PSU?

Also try clear the CMOS by the jumper, if you only try oc the RAM, and the PC will not boot. After clear the CMOS, the pc will boot usually.

Here is the PCpartpicker list. *Edit* The motherboard shown is not correct. The motherboard in questions is in fact a Gigabyte AM4 B350 Gaming 3

I did not overclock anything. I changed nothing in the cmos, and resetting it does not cause the unit to boot up.

It appears you had the motherboard running long enough to set the memory parameters in the BIOS:
Memory Clock
DRAM Timings
DRAM Voltage

Unfortunately, it appears you only know how to enable DDR4-3200. It is not realistic to think you can run at that speed as anything over DDR4-2666 may not work. Default speed is 2133MHz which is fine to boot up.

If your PC does not boot you may need to rest the CMOS.

Your video shows no BIOS beep speaker attached and no video card.

I never changed the speed of the ram. It was running at the default 2133MHz. I literally changed nothing in the BIOS, especially before it died. The day it died, the whole scenario went like this -

Turn Computer on - Boots to Windows 10
Browse forums for 30 minutes
Click Start-Power-Restart
Computer shuts down, then powers up to dead motherboard.

I get no bios, no display at all.

Its as if on restarting something in the motherboard pops, and perhaps something (graphics card?) is causing it when the computer boots/restarts, but only randomly.

I didnt post a video?

I have put a speaker on, there are no beeps. Motherboard is dead.

Also i never changed anything for the RAM speed, they were running at the default 2133MHz (Although the first time i had it running, it ran at a stable 3200MHz, but that doesnt apply to this go around.)

I am wondering if its possible something (Graphics Card? RAM?) could cause the motherboard to die suddenly when starting up, but randomly... as it had been booting up for a couple days.

Gigabyte AM4 motherboards, especially those still on an early UEFI/BIOS version, are famous for something called 'soft bricking'. That sounds suspiciously like what you've described where a working system suddenly refuses to start up.

Solution is to turn power off and remove power cable then remove the CMOS battery. Toggle the power button several times to ensure all motherboard capacitors are drained then just let the thing sit for 1/2 hour up to as long as you're patient.

Put it all back together and start up. UEFI/BIOS settings will, of course, all revert to defaults. Update to the latest BIOS from Gigabyte web site for your board as soon as possible.

Thanks, this is actually helpful. I went down a rabbit hole of information searching for the Soft Brick issue. I found a few other people that had the same thing with the fault LEDs flashing as well. Looks like there is no good way to try and boot from the backup BIOS on the B350 Gaming 3 board, which kind of sucks. I will try everything you suggested when I am able to get back to the computer.

And, I had updated to the latest BIOS, a day or two before it died.

Try this:
Remove the boot device, and any memory, clear the CMOS, then try boot the PC again. If the PC still does not boot at all. Either the MB or CPU has problem, but the problem will be from the MB usually, because you bought the parts from microcenter, you also can let them test the pc for you.

I dont believe it... Its working again... I actually did what drea.drechsler had suggested, but that didnt work. But thanks to drea.drechsler I started looking into the soft brick issue, and found this:

http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/697533-GUIDE-Forcing-backup-BIOS-on-Gigabyte-motherboards?highlight=gigabyte+dual+bios

Specifically Solution #2 which is:
Method #2:
1. Shut your PC down
2. Hold the power AND the reset button for about 10 sec, than release.
3. Backup BIOS should kick in anytime soon now.

I did this and instantly i knew it was fixed by the way it booted and the fans were running. I now have my system up and running. Problem is that I had the latest BIOS for this board, and it still did it. I just dont trust this Gigabyte Board anymore...
