Hi.
A few years ago I bought a computer for work. I later realised it had a bit of gaming potential and decided to upgrade it.
it's a Packard bell imedia s2885
I put a Nvidia gt 1030 in it and a Intel i5 4460 and a new ssd and did a reset of it all. I inserted the processor yesterday and it's not performing as well as it should. games that I technically should be able to run wirh feasible graphics like gta5 are lagging like hell on the lowest settings. any suggestions? it has 12 gb ddr3 ram btw.

Solution

If the BIOS wasn't compatible with the new processor, the PC wouldn't work at all (it wouldn't be able to POST).

For your motherboard. Google it.

Your motherboard could have (probably has) different versions of the BIOS and sometimes some versions won't work with some processors.

What I would do is figure out what motherboard you have and go to the manufacturers website and there you should find what processors go with what BIOS.

When you power up...you will probably see something that says "press a key to get into the BIOS". This is how you get in. Once in, you can see what version you have.

OK...that's good. Now you need to figure out what motherboard you have.

You can google this "Packard bell imedia s2885 " and you MAY find out that way.

You can also look at the motherboard and hopefully the model is printed on it.

Then after you know the model...google it....go to the manufacturers website and there should be a list of processors and what BIOSes go with them.

You need to make sure your BIOS p11-a1 goes with an i5-4460.
