Dell Vostro 3460 Lapttop CPU Upgrade

I upgraded the 3450, from a Core i3-2330M to the Core i7-2640M and I could not see a difference in speed. My nephew told me he swapped several dead motherboards from the 3460. They had the same motherboard but different CPUs (i3, i5 & i7) , which means it is upgrade-able.

very few Dell laptops are upgradeable,as their thermal/power considerations at most will allow perhaps a 100 Mhz faster CPU, which would be unnoticeable anyway, assuming the cpu is not soldered in...

Best to look for a newer laptop, with an SSD, and at least 8 gb of RAM.... (Never buy a Win 10 laptop with only 4 gb of RAM which Dell loves to sell for $329 or so)

That is what Windows 7 and Piriform's Speccy are reporting. It leads me to think maybe it is upgradeable to the third gen perhaps? I have been busy lately but maybe I will have time today to cross reference CPU specs between the generations. I hope it is, but if not no biggie. Got it at a pawn shop for a spare at a cheap price, would just like a little more juice out of it, processor-wise.

Thank you for your help! I know that there is a site (cpuworld?) that lets you see relative performance percentage increases and decreases when comparing processors that I will probably use in the process of making a decision.
If there is no meaningful performance increase then it probably wont even be worth the 50$ i can find one used for. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

I did fall for those synthetic tests. Pass mark gave the i7 a 1120 points advantage and GeekBench 978 points, but I did not see that advantage in the real world.
Installing a SSD did make a big difference thought. The laptop boot in 14 seconds and apps open instantly.
