Hi All,

I'm looking at purchasing a server with the following specs:

4 racks of SGI Altix 8200 ultra dense Xeon based, water cooled,
blade server consisting of 341 compute nodes consisting of 2,389
cores.

Any help in a ballpark fair price in USD for this setup would be greatly appreciated.

New price was probably about $500K / rack. Used? That is a fairly specialized purchase, so it would be difficult to estimate. What is the seller asking?

Do you have experience with the ICE servers? Ever done admin on one? Do you have the chilled water infrastructure required including the appropriate water quality?

Figure $500 - $1000 / blade. What does that total ? $50K / rack ?

I have no experience with anything relating to this.

From what I understand the costs that come with operating this machine have made it pretty undesirable. I'm a little surprised with you saying $50k per rack, you think there's many people in the world who pay that for this pretty dated and high maintenance setup?
