I have been trying for the past several hours to enable turbo boost on my Inspiron 3847. It has a Quad-Core Intel i5-4460. Base clock is 3.2 GHz but turbo boost brings it up to 3.4 GHz. Turbo Boost is enabled in the BIOS. But, when I test my clock speed when my CPU is at full load, it is always stuck at around 3.2 GHz.
When I push any of the cores into full load, i7z reports that the it is only clocking at 3192 MHz.
i7z also reports: TURBO DISABLED on 4 Cores, Hyper Threading OFF.
i7z says that Turbo boost is disabled even though it is enabled in the BIOS. Can't do anything about the hyper-threading at the BIOS level because it doesn't offer a hyper-threading option. Turbostat also reports the same speeds.
And I have permanently added the kernel parameter: intel_idle.max_cstate=-0 to disable the C-states as some users have reported that turbo boost would start working if that parameter was added. Retested the clock speeds with i7z and turbostat. No change.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
