Hi Guys:

I am looking for above two NAS. This will be the first time I am using NAS. Both are in my price range. My goals is to use NAS as a file server, pictures backup, stream music and pictures and accessing remotely via cloud. Video streaming will be very minimal, if any. Which one would serve the purpose, ease of use, apps, backup, cloud availability, some speed? Two WD RED 4TB HDDs will be using. Thanks for your feedback.

Of the 2 the QNAP is more powerful with a 1.7ghz dual core and 1gb RAM as opposed to the Synology 1.3ghz with 512mb RAM. I also use a QNAP at work and it works very well and has very fast read/write speeds on the drives. If the QNAP is the same price, go with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I heard my be it is wrong that even with higher specs of QNAP it is slower than Synology. Also, on Synology the apps are user friendly and more options are available.

Ok, honestly I was going by raw data, I haven't used either in a home setting. At work we use a fairly high end QNAP as a basic network storage device and don't use any of the apps so I have no input on those. If you've read articles or heard from owners of them that the Synology is better, then by all means go with it. I knew I didn't have much info but questions like this rarely get the love that gaming type questions do so I thought I'd try to help.
