Hello,
I need some basic instruction on how to get my wireless router to get to the internet.

Here is what I have:
Spectrum High Speed(100meg) service
Arris Surfboard modem (SB6141)
DrayTek Vigor Router (2820N)
Lenovo Ideapad 500 Laptop.

There are about 8 or so devices in the home.

I can connect my laptop to the cable modem and all is good, so I have internet service to the home. When I connect the Draytek to the modem, it does not pick up the internet signal, so we don't have any wireless internet in the home. I have plugged my laptop into the router directly with no change.

I need help with basic set up of the Draytek router. I can access the admin of the router, but even looking at the manual, I cant figure out how to make it work.

Any help would be appreciated!

Looking at the manual of the DrayTek, there are a lot of ports. Let's make sure you have plugged into the correct one ... it is the one labeled WAN2. That port has 2 LEDs above it ... do they come on? If not, you may have a bad cable.

If that is all good, log into the DrayTek and look at the WAN2 status on the status page ... let us know what you find out.

I have the modem plugged into the "WAN 2" port and the PC plugged into one of the LAN ports. The LEFT light is blinking on both ports but the RIGHT light is solid ON (not blinking). When I logged in, it says WAN 1 and 2 are "Disconnected".

Left blinking means that there is data flowing. Right solid means that you are connected at 100 Mbps. Both of those are good.

I assume you have done the quick start wizard and selected WAN2 as the primary source of internet.

Was the router purchased new or were you using if for another application (ISDN or DSL or ??) before? I wonder if part of an old configuration is interfering with your current setup. You might consider doing the quick start wizard again. If that fails, then do a hardware reset (page 309 of the manual). If you still get lights on the WAN 2 port and the software still reports that WAN 2 is disconnected, then it is possible that something has gone wrong between the physical port and the electronics (ie, box is fried).

Purchased new. Always used with the same cable modem. I was using it as part of a VPN with a company I no longer work for, so did a factory reset and tried to restore but can't seem to get it to work. It worked well before I did the reset, so I hope its not dead. I will be back home in a bit and try again and see if it works.
