Hi guys, ill be buying 3 corsair ML149 fans, white led ones, and ill be masking the blades and painting the frame. What im gonna do is use a old to power the fans, i dont have a tower with me now, but i have a psu jumper so i can use it to turn on the psu. My question is, can i power those fans off a molex to 3pin adapter?? what will heappen?? will they run on max speed and light up the leds or will they not light up?? Or will the fans nor work at all because the fan needs the 4 pins for power?? Thanks in advance.

Solution
Yes you can, only thing is that it will run full speed and will not be able to see it in BIOS or programs. Two wires are for power, one for speed monitoring and last one for fine speed adjustments (PWM). LEDs are also going to light up if there's no separate lead for them.
