Can a 1333 FSB CPU Work With This Motherboard

I have an Asrock "4Core1333-FullHD" motherboard that states on the motherboard its self can use a CPU with a Front Side Bus of 1333 but in the manual it says the 1333 FSB is "** In overclocking mode" the manual is here:

So im guessing I can only use a CPU with a FSB of 1066 and then overclock it but I have seen some CPU's on Ebay that already have a FSB of 1333 and I would like to use one of those but will it be ok to use a 1333 FSB CPU in this motherboard?

Cpus supported are yorkfield (Quad core) and wolfdale (Dual core).

Click on a cpu youre interested in and look under performance for bus speed. Thats the memory controller speed you match with memory.

Enabling xmp in memory config of bios should allow you to run at those memory speeds but running 1066 setting if forced on 1333 memory sticks will be fine.

Your board supports ddr2 800 so ddr = double data rate = 1600 bus.

Overclocking is only involved if cpu's memory controller is pushed further than it's own bus.

Thanks Boju I will get an E8600 CPU with a 1333 FSB but one last question, I have 4 sticks of matched ram from Hynix "1GB 1Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12" are these sticks good to use with the E8600 CPU?

PC2-5300U 667Mhz unbuffered memory DDR rate of 1333. The E8600 cpu supports 1333 memory so it should be fine.

If you can get a quad processor that would be better than a dual core. Upto you.

I spotted something in the manual that says to use a yorkfield and wolfdale CPU, The CPU with "*" mark are only supported with PCB version 1.03 or above I think I have version 1.02 can I still use an E8600 CPU?

It looks like I cant use wolfdale but am I right about using a Conroe CPU like the E6850?

Did you buy the board second hand? The Bios may have been flashed to the latest 1.03 version. Wouldn't know unless you had a cpu to check the bios revision.

You did raise a good question. Not sure about Conroe but Kentsfield should work natively. The Q6600 is a good processor.

Yes the Bios is version 1.3 but the PCB version is 1.02 I ended up buying an E6850 Conroe CPU I just have to wait for it to be posted, I asked about the Q6600 as I had this in a different motherboard but it can stay in it and I will use the Conroe CPU thanks for all your help Boju
