Need some advice on new PC parts (mobo/cpu etc.)

Hey everyone!

So I am really planning to build a completely new PC (except my gpu) because I have a 1080 in a quite old machine, and it started to behave weirdly: fans start to spin like crazy, sounding like a hairdryer in a coupel minutes after I start a game. So hopefully it’s just the other parts.

Current build:
-i5 4460
-16gb ddr3 ram
-gigabyte H81M-S2H
-Gigabyte gtx 1080 windforce

As I am building a new PC, I am looking to get the best parts possible to be good for next 4 years at least, or so. I really love minimalistic things, and would really like to build a nice and clean build with RGB so I was thinking to get the following and I need some advice from you guys as well:
-Corsair rm650x PSU
-NZXT S340elite case
-TridentZ 2x8gb ddr4 RGB rams 3600Mhz or 3200Mhz (not sure)
-Nzxt Kraken X62
-Z370 mobo
-i7 8700k
-NZXT hue+
-Nzxt aer fans

So I have a couple questions I’d like to ask:
1. I heard that 8700k had several issues. Are they fixed? Is it worth getting a 8700k, or should I purchase my first amd cpu? If yes, which one is the best?

2. Which motherboard to get? I would like something really good, which looks good as well (possibly black).

3. I am no expert in hardware, so should I get a 3600Mhz ram, or 3200 is enough? Are they compatible with all the z370 mobos?

4. Are the other parts I mentioned above okay? Kraken x62 for instance is it good if I want my CPU overclocked?

FYI:
-I would only use the PC for gaming (I don’t do 3D modelling and stuff like that)
-Yes, I love RGB, and I can’t explain why
-My budget would be around 1200$ and without GPU as I mentioned above.
-If I knew I could surely do it, I’d probably invest in a super-cool hardline tubed watercooling system, but I am too afraid that I mess up and all the money is wasted.

Hey there!

1) Never heard of any serious issues with them aside hot temps, but that's only if you do not own a good cooler or push the overclock to hard...
2) Only option avaiable for CoffeeLake are the 370Z series, so you definitely have to get one of them.
3) 3200MHz is enough, Intel CPUs don't benefit as much as the Ryzen counterpart, so it's fine to be slower, won't impact the performance.
4) All of them are good, but I am biased against water cooler since it's too much trouble for little gaing compared to Air. And, a good air cooler can do just as much as any water IMHO without any of the problems, like leak, loop, etc...

So, if i may suggesti a build for you, this would be it:

Well yea I really freakin like the design of the S340 Elite. What other case would you suggest which looks similar? Full tempered glass side panel, and minimalistic look. Perhaps some RGB haha :D up to 150$ maximum.

I didn't say "don't get the S340"; just to be aware of the issue. You can still build in it.... as many people do.

Liquid cooling is an option. So are better fans. You might also have to run the fans harder.

Case aesthetics are important. You gotta like it. Fortunately it is generally one of the cheaper parts of your build, so you don't have to be married to it if things don't work out.

The new Meshify C is nice. As is the new Define R6.

What are your opinions on Phanteks Eclipse P400 Tempered glass?

Or maybe Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX (it's a different price category, but is it worth spending that much on it?)

I think the P400 TG is a gorgeous case. The folks at Phanteks make beauty cases. At one point this was the case I was shopping for. It does suffer from the same issues though. It is not known for airflow.

It sounds like your heart is set on a case style. You should just get the S340 Elite :)

haha yea maybe :D Well I think I'll get the P400 tg though :D I like it more than the S340 elite, only wanted to get that to match the nzxt products. But I think hue+ LED strips will work fine with Phanteks case too. Also on the phanteks case I can put 2 fans on the top. And I was planning to get 3x AER fans pack anyways. So there would be a spare fan if I was getting the nzxt case. So I guess Phanteks is the better choice :D
