Upgrade now or wait?

I currently have an i5 4690k and a Radeon 290x. I plan on keeping the CPU for now, but I've been contemplating upgrading the GPU to the 1080ti. The problem, as we all know, is that GPU prices are through the roof right now.

But the question remains, will prices EVER drop back down to normal (or MSRP)? Having the 290x, is it worth waiting and seeing what happens over the next 3-6 months, or would it be a safe bet to say that prices won't come down much more, and to go ahead and pull the trigger?

Maybe some of you have more intel into the current GPU situation?

Thanks

I'd recommend holding off for now or at the very least try to find one at a site such as EVGA in the auto notify option for under $1000 and snag one asap when the model you'd like comes back into stock. Then you could sell your 290X for a good price.

Well the 290X is equiv to the GTX 970 for the most part - but I have a feeling that waiting it out is probably the popular answer. The worst that can happen is that prices don't move I guess. Seems like I read that Nvidia is releasing a card dedicated to "mining." Maybe that will help lower prices on the cards designed for gaming.

Whats the point, 970 isnt really any better than the 290x.

WildCard999, I've thought about that very scenario. I've seen brand new 1080ti go in stock for close to $900 in the past few days. Maybe selling the 290x now would slightly offset some of the price differences. Cause once the prices drop back down, the 290x will be worth hardly anything lol.

I'm using nowinstock.net to notify me of when cards go in stock and how much they are.. Is there a better way to finding deals on these cards? Manufacture websites maybe the best option? Just want to get my stuff straight before purchasing one lol
