mobo wont turn on

i just built a computer and went to power it on. it clicked for a split second and then turned off. now it wont click on or do anything. and while the power is connected the heatsink on the mobo gets extremely hot. I returned the mobo for a new one and the exact same thing happened. could it be a CPU short?

There seems to be a short. Try testing the board outside the case. Check the standoffs if properly installed.

I took it in to a place and the mobo wont post. they are going to test the PSU monday morning. if it turns out to be the PSU than i hope it didnt damage the CPU or ram aswell.

so i have went through 3 motherboards, i bought a fourth and had them quick mount and post using all my components. everything was ok. So the only culprit could be either the extension cord or the plug in itself that is shorting out and killing my boards.

there goes the fourth board. could it be my graphics card? or maybe my aftermarket 6 pin to 6 pin cables?

turns out it was the 6 pin cables. i guess your not supposed to mix and match cables with different PSU's. News to me.
