I've reinstalled windows 7 64 bit about a week ago on an old 2011 Asus laptop https://www.asus.com/Laptops/K50IJ/specifications/ (3GB RAM). At first it ran surprisingly fast but today when it installed the latest windows 7 updates it's as slow as it was before the reinstall. There was also a problem with the update because it said it had to revert the changes and try again. Programs like Chrome are opening slowly, even pressing the windows key is slow. I've installed the chipset drivers but that didn't help nor did the maintenance tool. I'm not sure whether it's worth going back to the previous updates (if it's even possible) because of the lack of the security patches. Is there a way to fix it?

I installed the updates manually. Will it work if I already downloaded some updates?

Delete Chrome. It eats memory like crazy.
Install "critical' security updates manually.
Delete ALL memory hog programs: such as "google earth."
Yeah, google Chrome causes all kinds of problems in my computer too.

If problems persist: try a non-asus motherboard.

IMHO: asus is a really poor board. It causes all kinds of issues on all of the systems I have seen.
If you install a non-asus board: you may find that your problems are solved.
