Help with which card to get

My current gpu (geforce gtx 650) isn't so great and causes some games I play to crash. Mainly: http://store.steampowered.com/app/253230/A_Hat_in_Time/ so I was thinking about getting a new graphics card to run games like that without crashing and being able to play on max visual settings. I was thinking either this one https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1521339317&sr=1-1&keywords=geforce%2B1060&th=1 or this one https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Geforce-GDDR5-Graphic-GV-N1050OC-2GD/dp/B01MG0733A/ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1521344654&sr=1-9&keywords=geforce%2B1060&th=1 I'm not sure if the 1050 one would be good enough or if the 1060 would be overkill? I'd prefer to get the 1050 because of how much cheaper it is, but I'd also like to play more games like the one linked above without any problems and have a better card for the long run. I'm also wondering if once I get a new graphics card how will I know if I can use it with my pc or not? Like, will my power supply be enough, will it be able to fit in my pc, etc.basically I'm wondering what kind of things I'd need to know/do before installing a new gpu. I'm not that knowledgeable on computer stuff but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is important, but my ram is 8gb and my processor is amd fx(tm) 6300 six core processor 3.50 ghz

Edit: Also, I have a ddr3 8b ram, will upgrading my graphics card make the ddr3 ram stop working and require me to get, say, ddr5 ram?

The game that you specified is actually a very light load game (I looked up specs). While I looked it up, there are plenty of people who have played this game on lower performing system than yours. You must have other issues, first may be Heat. Have you dusted your PC at any point since you got it? What kind of "crash" do you get? system restart? game crash?

Other things; Is your system prebuilt? like... is it HP brand? or something like that, if so, please list the model number so we could find more detailed specs (especially Power supply which would be important to know when upgrading graphics card). As well as knowing which PC case you have willallow to make sure of physical space inside for new graphics card.

There are no issues...

There are no issues between DDR3 computer ram and DDR5 graphics card ram, they work independent of each other (for this example). But you do want to grab the ddr5 ram graphics card, it performs better (there may be some cheap cards that have ddr3, but today, they are mostly ddr5)

If you like games such as A Hat in Time, getting a GTX1050ti would be a great upgrade and it would provide good price/performance for your system. In your case I wouldn't opt to buy a gtx1060, just because you're of a more casual gamer.

I just finished up cleaning out my pc the best I could from watching youtube tutorials, I'll try to play the game again later today. When I played the game it'd take 5-30 minutes then the game would freeze and not respond for a while, so I'd go in task manager and end the process.

My computer was custom built by my dad's friend 4 years ago so I'm not sure what he did exactly. It's ibuypower with 600W power supply max, if it's custom built would it still have a model number and if so where would it be?

okay, so it's half and half. iBuyPower is a company that prebuilds computers, but you can pick your components (somewhat). As far as upgrading your graphics card, you need to check the power supply for a 6pin/8pin power connector cable (for graphics card, if you would get that, that would require it), Or you could look for model number or any "serial" number with brand name on the unit, and we could figure it out. Since it's a 600w PSU, there's a chance that it would have those connectors.

as far as your freezing, it sounds more software/in windows related. This could be anything between a driver crashing, to another important windows app crashing. if it's just the one game doing it, I would start with freshly reinstalling it. maybe if you feel, use DDU software (google it) to reinstall your graphics card drivers
